Colleen Ramsey, LSW, CAADC, works alongside Clinical Supervisor Brianna Earomirski, LCSW, as the clinical team here at Innovo Detox. While the primary purpose at Innovo Detox is to offer detox, withdrawal management, and medical stabilization services for all of our patients, we wholeheartedly believe in offering the latest in evidence-based clinical care and support for patients to appropriately prepare them for their next steps in recovery and within the addiction treatment continuum of care.

Social work and helping people reach their potential has always been a passion of Colleen’s for as long as she can remember. She graduated from Widener University with a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) and became a licensed social worker (LSW) in 2009. However, Colleen began working directly in the drug and alcohol treatment and recovery field in 2005, employed in an inpatient dual diagnosis unit in a county facility and then completing her college internship at a halfway house for women suffering from addiction and their children.

“The drug and alcohol field was something I never thought I would do until I learned more about addiction,” Colleen explained. “Personally, I knew about addiction from the standpoint of trying to love someone who was addicted, which was difficult while growing up. But once I became educated and understood that addiction was a disease, I found myself having more compassion and empathy to those suffering from it.”

In her time working in addiction treatment and the recovery field, Colleen gained experience working in all facets of the industry. She worked in the admissions department of a health system, including the emergency room, where assessment and intervention was key to helping someone move forward for their overall health and well-being. From there Colleen worked again in drug and alcohol treatment admissions but also took on the role of expanding services to include a children’s program.

Colleen said, “Helping children learn about addiction and understand at a young age really opened my eyes and helped me understand just how important educating kids early in their lives about issues such as mental health and addiction really is.”

Next, she became a counselor at an inpatient rehab, working primarily with adolescents and young adults. During this time, Colleen learned the importance of supporting young adults through their specific issues surrounding addiction, including emotional growth, failure-to-launch or failure-to-thrive issues, and helping them find hope, direction, and purpose when they are lost or confused. She helped patients develop necessary coping skills and mechanisms to live a life of recovery. Colleen then worked in various outpatient addiction treatment settings, including a Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program, as well as at an EAP (Employees Assistance Program) where she was able to help employees struggling with addiction and mental health issues. These experiences shed light for her on the gravity of America’s opioid epidemic and its impact on families and communities.

At Innovo Detox, Colleen brings her extensive experience to clinically work with patients in their first few days of recovery, making sure they have the necessary knowledge and psychoeducational groups to be prepared for their journey of overcoming addiction.

“With 15 years of experience in this field, I feel that my ability to help individuals who come in for detox and treatment at Innovo Detox will be highly effective,” she said. “I believe I am well-versed in being able to help our patients understand that there is hope for a better way of life and a path to recovery.”
