Innovo Detox, a MARC Treatment Center, opened its door in Adams County, Pennsylvania on March 16th, 2020.

Two years of planning and construction went into providing a first-of-its-kind, state-of-the-art stand-alone detox facility to offer services to those suffering from addiction and co-occurring disorders.

Understanding that addiction is a complex, chronic illness that often requires long-term treatment and recovery support, we also knew two key points: 1) That detox, withdrawal management and medical stabilization are often the key first step in the recovery process for the majority of individuals suffering from addiction, and 2) everyone’s path of recovery is different and that while a continuum of care that includes treatment and recovery support is key, not everyone’s journey will look the same.

So Innovo Detox was created to detox and stabilize patients and then move them on to the next appropriate clinical step in a personalized continuum. Sometimes that means residential treatment, sometimes extended care or a PHP or IOP program, sometimes that means a recovery house or recovery peer support or to individual therapy or psychiatry.

To this date, since opening our doors, Innovo Detox is proud to say we have treated 275 patients. They have come from self-referrals, peer recovery specialists in hospitals and ERs, all levels of addiction treatment facilities, recovery houses and local doctors and clinicians, alumni and the internet. Over 91% of those patients, a number that includes any patient leaving AMA (Against Medical Advice), have successfully engaged in recommended aftercare treatment and/or support.

During COVID-19, we have helped keep patients out of hospitals and emergency rooms, to lessen the strain on those hospitals and healthcare systems. We have partnered with residential treatment centers to detox patients before they admit to inpatient or residential rehabs, due to these rehabs having to appropriately support adequate social distancing. We have partnered with recovery houses to help stabilize residents who may have relapsed and stumbled in their recovery get back on their feet. We have admitted patients from individual therapists and psychiatrists that identified these patients needed a higher level of care, and then collaborated with that referring professional on where that patient would go next to best support their recovery.

Opening in the midst of COVID-19, literally on the day that Pennsylvania shut down and imposed restrictions for the health and safety of residents, certainly was challenging. However, our leadership team and staff responded beautifully. Appropriately implementing state and CDC recommended guidelines for health and safety, the staff at Innovo Detox has been able to successfully navigate the coronavirus crisis while ensuring that the quality of care patients receive has not diminished.

We have prided ourselves on the communication and collaboration we offer to referring professionals and facilities, non-profit organizations, health systems, interventionists, and families that entrust us with the care of their loved ones. We appreciate the incredible feedback that we have received so far. We also know that during COVID-19, the need for addiction treatment is even greater than it was before. Suicide and overdose rates continue to rise. Statistics demonstrate that more people are suffering from isolation and social disconnection, as reports of co-occurring issues such as anxiety and depression continue to impact American citizens. This is strengthening our resolve to deliver the highest quality of addiction treatment care we can for those in need of detox and medical stabilization.

We look forward to forming new collaborative relationships with behavioral health providers throughout the state of Pennsylvania and the regional area, so that we can all work together in helping more people in need overcome addiction and find recovery, both during the ongoing pandemic and beyond.
