It is an unfortunate truth that America’s behavioral healthcare system is flawed. Someone seeking help for addiction or mental health issues often find that in order to get connected to services they must engage in an often confusing, convoluted process. Often services are inaccessible, therapists and psychiatrists have waitlists, or the services they need do not exist within their local area. They too can find that many services are expensive. While the Affordable Care Act and the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA) should ensure that anyone is able to access services and those services should be covered by their health insurance, many people find this is not the case.

Whether someone has Medicaid, Medicare, or private commercial insurance, there should be quality services available to help with substance use disorder, addiction, and mental health issues.

While not all treatment centers, behavioral health facilities, rehabs, or private practitioners accept all insurance, an individual should be able to find needed services with a provider or rehab that does accept whatever health insurance coverage they have, whether federal or state insurance or a private insurance through their employer.

Does MY Health Insurance Cover Detox?

Does My Health Insurance Cover Detox? It is important to ask a facility if they accept your insurance, if they are in or out of network with your insurance, and even if they do accept the health insurance you have, if there will be any out-of-pocket cost for treatment services. Every insurance plan is different, meaning that there are varying costs for deductibles, out of pocket maximums, and depending on what have been met in that calendar year, there may be some out-of-pocket cost. Additionally, medical professionals or treatment facilities are legally required to collect these costs if they take insurance, so while it is a practice to waive costs for patients if they have insurance, this is not legal. A facility can, on a case-by-case basis, work with a potential patient or family on a payment plan or sliding scale fee.

Here at Innovo Detox, we are constantly working to make the cost of our detox and medical stabilization services more accessible and affordable to those in need suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. Currently, we are in-network with several insurance plans, and consistently working to go in-network with others.

Innovo Detox is in-network with the following insurance plans:

  • Highmark BlueCross BlueShield
  • Capital Blue Cross
  • BlueCross BlueShield Federal Employee Program (FEP)
  • Geisinger Health Plan
  • Any BlueCross BlueShield Blue Card Member
  • Innovo Detox is also a preferred provider for Tri-Care, as a contractual out-of-network provider

Regardless of the need, someone should always be able to find help for addiction. It is important to remember to ask a provider or a treatment center what insurance they accept, if they are in-network or out-of-network with your insurance (some facilities accept certain insurances in-network while out-of-network with other health insurance companies), and to find out if there are any out-of-pocket costs. Make sure to get a full breakdown of costs before admitting, so that there are no surprise costs or bills after a treatment episode. There should be transparency between facility and patient on any costs upfront, so that the patient and family is aware of what the total cost of treatment will be, how much will be covered by insurance, and that once the patient admits their focus can be on getting better and finding health, rather than any worry about financials.
